Testing policy

Tufts is test optional for all undergraduate applicants. Students choose whether scores are considered, may self-report them during review, and must provide official verification if they enroll after submitting scores.

AI and authorship policy

Published admissions guidance found. Tufts strongly discourages generative AI for essays and short answers. Its admissions page says the committee expects the applicant's original ideas in the applicant's own words and finds AI responses formulaic and less distinctive.

What remains uncertain

Tufts does not publish a detailed permitted-and-prohibited list on the reviewed page. Strongly discouraged is not the same wording as an absolute ban, so ask Tufts before using generative AI in a submitted response.

A detector percentage is not a substitute for this policy. Preserve notes, dated drafts, revision history, and feedback so the development of the student's own work remains visible.

Show the search process, not a campus brochure

The first response asks how you learned about and engaged with Tufts. Name the source, event, conversation, visit, or question that changed your understanding, then explain what you did with that information.

Copy the right program prompt

The second question changes by school and degree path. A project response for Engineering needs your role and iteration. A portfolio response needs one specific piece and the ideas that shaped its making. Confirm the selected program before drafting.
