Testing policy

UChicago is test optional. Its No Harm policy says submitted SAT or ACT scores are considered only when they positively affect the review. Applicants may self-report, while enrolling students must provide official results.

AI and authorship policy

No dedicated public policy found. Nudge did not find a dedicated public undergraduate admissions AI policy on UChicago's current admissions pages. UChicago says the personal statement should be in the applicant's own words and asks applicants to show who they are in their own voice.

What remains uncertain

Own-words guidance does not define every acceptable editing tool. Ask UChicago Admissions about a use that could shape the response's ideas, structure, or language.

A detector percentage is not a substitute for this policy. Preserve notes, dated drafts, revision history, and feedback so the development of the student's own work remains visible.

Write the fit response before the playful one

The Why UChicago response needs careful research and a clear connection to how you learn. Draft it first. Then the extended essay can reveal a different part of your thinking instead of carrying the whole application's personality on its back.

Give the unusual prompt a real point

A strange premise can still lead to a precise essay. Pick an option that helps you examine a habit, question, or way of seeing. The joke can open the door, but it cannot do all the furniture moving.
